In a beautiful courtyard, nestled in the middle of downtown Bethesda, Maryland, on a warm September evening, Jon and Kristin were carefully reciting their vows. Standing in front of a serene waterfall, they were two people who, it was clear, had at last found their soulmate. They spoke their personal promises of love and devotion to each other, written from their hearts…
And then, in front of their family and friends, they each turned to their two amazing young daughters, and pledged their love, protection, and bond of family to them. And there wasn’t a dry eye in that courtyard.
I often sigh and smile at my couples when I hear their vows, watching them say their special words through my camera’s eye… but this time, I must admit that for a moment, I was clicking the shutter through my tears, hoping my shots would be sharp.
Thank you, Kristin & Jon, for such a fun, beautiful, and memorable experience! May you and your girls enjoy a lifetime of happiness!
Special thanks to my second photographer, Sandy White of Lucky Ladybug Photography!
This handsome devil is one of my oldest and dearest friends! We met in college, and were often spotted on stage together in theatre productions – he was the Trissotin to my Henriette, the Peter Patrone to my Heidi Holland, and the Benedick to my Beatrice. While I moved back home to my beloved Maryland, he moved through Pennsylvania and Ohio, and beyond acting to designing, playwriting, directing, and educating.
That was a long time ago, but over the years we’ve been able to have dinner here and there and stay updated on each other’s lives. Recently, while passing through town, we were able to not only have dinner (my family in tow!), but also take in the gorgeous charm of downtown Frederick and have a photo shoot! It was such a pleasure to capture the spirit I know so well, and to see my friend’s face smiling back at me as I edited the images. These are some of my favorites! P.S. I usually love black and white headshots the best, but I threw in a few color pics as well.
School has started, and that means Fall is just around the corner! The season of crisp, cool temperatures and apple cider doughnuts! It also seems to be the favorite time of year for family photo sessions – who can argue with warm colors and beautiful autumn light?
Thinking about this time of year, I couldn’t resist pulling up a few photos from a session I did last year around this time. Boy, do I love being an accomplice to a surprise baby announcement! Not many folks knew about the “little pumpkin” on the way, and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to take a few shots to share the happy news with the rest of this beautiful couple’s family and friends!
These were taken at Gaver Farm (www.gaverfarm.com), which coincidentally has the best apple cider doughnuts!
Don’t let the season go by without capturing some of the beautiful autumn magic – memories are made around campfires and in pumpkin patches!
Happy Fall Everyone!

There’s nothing better than baby toes, am I right?! I was blessed to photograph this lovely little lady and her proud parents when she was just 8 days old. Can you feel the happy new family glow?
Congratulations, Patrick and Lindsey!
